Our History

Our History

Chestnut Grove has served its members and community since 1850 by faithfully obeying God’s Word and sharing His love with the families of Grayson.

In August 1850, a small group of men, under the leadership of Rev. Seamon Moore, and guided by the Holy Spirit, gathered under a brush arbor in southern Gwinnett County to establish a church. This was the beginning of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. Their first purchase was in 1852, when they acquired two acres of land for $5.00, on which they constructed a log building that served as both a church and a school. That spirit of worship and service has been a hallmark of Chestnut Grove and continues to guide us today.
